(CBC) -- Fabian Manning is on the mend.

The newly re-appointed Conservative senator was hospitalized after his car hit a moose on the Trans Canada Highway in southeastern Newfoundland Thursday night.

A spokesperson said the senator was shaken up and suffered some cuts and bruises but was released from hospital Saturday and is resting comfortably at home.

Manning resigned his senate seat to run in the Newfoundland district of Avalon during the recent federal election.

He was defeated and soon thereafter re-appointed to the senate by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
