Alberta Oilsands

The Ottawa Citizen:

The federal government has acknowledged it deliberately excluded data indicating a 20 per cent increase in annual pollution from Canada’s oilsands industry in 2009 from a recent 567-page report on climate change that it was required to submit to the United Nations.

Supply and demand - thats how the world works. I wonder how many of the Alberta haters have given up their cars. Next time you fill up think of us and know how much we love you!

Harper government not releasing information is news? He was found in contempt for not making disclosure to the HoC and was rewarded with a majority government so why would he start now?

Note to GuyCybershy -- one day you and your grandchildren will learn that you cannot eat, drink or breathe money.

The whole country is going to be in the poor house when the true cost of this environmental catastrope has to be paid.

It is no coincidence that many of those who preach 'capitalist' market values while working behind the scenes to ensure the consumer is kept in the dark about what he is actually buying also preach 'democracy' while working behind the scenes to ensure that voters are kept in the dark about what they are actually voting for.

Capitalism? We don't have it yet, but we're working on it. Democracy? Democracy means the good guys win, and on that score Canada is right on track.

This is a government or liars and fools. First past the post electoral system my @ss. We need reform, these fools aren't resenting the majority of Canadians. How can a majority government be elected by 41% of the population? Only in Canada? Pitty.
02:50 PM on 05/30/2011
Toddynho, you sure like to use the word fool when someone doesn't agree with your own beliefs. To follow your logic 41% of the country are fools. I guess when your friends and you elect a majority with less than 50% of the popular vote that is ok. It easy to be the one throwing darts, try holding the dart board for once. Or suggest an alternative.

41% sounds about right to me. What other conclusion can you draw when they vote for a government that has been found in contempt, that openly lies in documents, that's muzzled Environment Canada scientists and prorogued government because they they tried to pull a fast one and got caught? Seriously, the only reason they are in power, is before there are too many progressive parties, and we have this first past the post system that give us governments that only represent a small percentage of the Canadian population? As for your " holding the dartboard" bar-educated metaphor, you don't have a blue as to what I do so I'd suggest you avoid the stories your head is making up and stick to facts.

Why do we bother with the United Nations? It's none of their business. Oil from the tar sands is our mother's milk, and who would betray their own mother?

Yes, let's chastise the UN and celebrate the lies of government. Heck, if they really wanted to make Canada look pollution free, why not simply avoid all sorts of nasty stats n numbers n stuff and just make crap up? Ooops, they are!

Our data would look even better if we dropped automobile and heavy industry stats as well. We could be statically free of pollution if we tackle data from the farming industry as well. Consider how little green house gases cows would emit if we just ignored them.
Remember if a tree falls in the forest if there is nobody there will anyone hear it falling. Well the obvious answer to that is a resounding NO!
We will all breathe a little easier if we would just stick our heads in the sand.

And it's what, 1 month into his majesty's majority?..............Look south to Canada's future. Neocon mislead and bleed nations. They do it well.

Yes, by all means look south. Once we get our priorities in order we can build a dynamic economy like our neighbors. Canadians took a giant step toward reaching this goal on May 2, and there is nothing you naysayers can do about it.

Dynamic? Anemic job growth, long term depression levels of employment, millions and millions without access to good Doctors, etc.... You have an interesting definition of "dynamic."

40 % foolishly vote for a fool, he doesn't represent all Canadians, not even half the population. Canada has to change its first past the post system, and adopt something more representative of all of Canada.

41% of use voted for these criminals and thugs.

Maybe we should look at the new system that has been adopted by many countries in Europe. Britain has been considering it and put it to a vote. I do not know the results. Not sure how it works, but something like a referendum. Do you know?

The tar sands project has been one of the most environmentally destructive single ventures in the history of planet. Unfortunately truth and the suppression thereof by politicians and industry flacks will continue as long as people let them get away with it.

There are many who do not share your opinion. The oilsands are probably the best economic asset that Canada has, at present.
The global warming scam becomes less credible, by the day. If this is global warming , I shudder to think what global cooling could look like. !

I would say as always those benefiting from environmental degradation rarely see it as a problem but that doesn't make the process any cleaner.
09:22 AM on 05/30/2011
Of course Harper and his crew wouldn't release that information. It's not good politics to say you support the actions of the biggest polluters in the country. The tarsands create more greenhouse gas emissions than all the motor vehicles in the country! WTF!
03:18 PM on 05/30/2011
Coal fired electricity plants generate way more CO2 than the oilsands. We're going to need that CO2, as we approach the next ice age, if the past is any guide. !
