THE CANADIAN PRESS -- Prince William and his new bride Catherine will travel by passenger jet, bush plane, naval frigate and canoe as they tour Canada next month on their first official overseas trip since their April 29 wedding.

The royal couple will attend Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa, dragon boat races in Charlottetown, a street hockey game in Yellowknife and the Stampede Parade in Calgary during their nine-day visit.

William and Kate's official itinerary, just released, sets a busy pace for the young couple, beginning with their arrival in Ottawa June 30 and ending with their departure from Calgary July 8.

I hope Will & Kate get to sample some of our great Canadian food. People always ask me "what the heck is Canadian food?" so I made this guide to my fav foods that are Canadian. Sneak peak: poutine tops the list. Let me know what I missed or should add:

For me, a California taxpayer, they are NOT special and it shouldn't cost the taxpayers of CA or anyone in the US for their tagged on visit to California just to hang out with the Beckhams, which was the first 'plan' of Duke and Duchess Do-Little. On their own dime? Come, enjoy and spend. Otherwise, stay home. And, their 'fundraising' activities in Santa Barbara fill their own coffers, not ours. It's a diplomatic mistake, from my point of view, and could have done more for relations to have visited DC or NY, not California. This was to make the little Princess That Could get her thumb sucking way to be seen with any potential or legit celebrity. This ill-advised visit to the US is a total and complete waste of time, money and reputation.

These people are NOT special and we should not be paying for their trip. Don't they get a very generous unearned stipend to make them feel special. How do they contribute to society? They are just a wet dream for people like Ginger Marie who still love fairy tales. How sweet.

why is this news?

harpo lies about the cost of 30+ billion dollars spend on unnecessary fighter jets while canadians are more stressed than ever (according to a huffpo article)

i don't need to see someone who is rich just because his great great grandparents lived off the serfs they controlled

Despite polls that show that a majority of Canadians are either indifferent or hostile to anything Royal, the media continues to torture us with details about their lives. This is worse than a contempt for public opinion. The British monarchy is a rotten, pernicious anachronism that continues hateful traditions that have always made them social undesreables. Continuing to treat them as newsworthy celebrities just masks that long inglorious history and the fact that the institution and the associated class system that it perpetuates still harbors all sorts of rogues and rascals within the veil of ultra-respectability. The Americans had the guts and savy to kick the bums out of the U.S. in 1775-1781 while we still hang on blindly to a bad habit.

And fortunately the Canadians had the guts and savy to kick out the Americans during the American Revolution and the War of 1812!

I don't know what history books you have been reading (if any). The fiasco American invasion of Canada early in the Revolution was a failure because of the ineptitude of the American army organization, inadequate supplies and appaling weather. The Brits (and `loyalists') were terrified that it would succeed. So there was no `kicking out' in that conflict. As for the War of 1812 it was a draw as most historians would agree. Besides, you apparently don't know that the Americans did rather better tactically, having achieved naval control of Lake Erie and having captured Fort Niagara. Eventally the Americans withdrew back to the U.S. (again no `kicking them out'). Perhaps they thought more of the new found liberties there than Canadians did. If so, perhaps they were eventually proven right. After all, they now have Obama to counter the horrors of Sarah Palin. Who do we have to counter the horrors of Harper and the stupid Queen ?

I think it's great that they are visiting Canada, one of their first official trips. I'm glad they're visiting Canada before Australia or New Zealand. Most Canadians appreciate the Royal Family.
09:02 AM on 06/22/2011
'most'?
perhaps you should back that up or learn the definition of the word

I'm on the edge of my seat, awaiting the next details about the royal visit. Why do we care so much? Loyalists claim the royals have an important function, like tourism. Imagine how much more money could be generated by offering tours of confiscated properties. We should rethink our assumptions about genetic entitlement.

Absolutely `dead on'. I nominate `Bowen Man' for prime minister.
05:06 PM on 06/21/2011
My sincerest sympathies go to the Royal couple for having to endure this most boring of itineraries. I'm sure they will take loads of pictures of the street hockey game in Yellowknife to eagerly share with their future kids.

I wonder why the locations for the events in Quebec are "undisclosed"? Protesters? Canada is probably just an inconvenience they have to go through before going to where it/they really matter: HOLLYWOOD.
04:25 PM on 06/21/2011
Will will be Canada's Sovereign, the foundation and personification of the Canadian State. In Hollywood he's just another rich playboy. I'd say he's more important in Canada.
03:10 PM on 06/21/2011
Nice of the Canadian Royal Family to actually visit Canada
03:27 PM on 06/21/2011
I'm sure it's just a necessary inconvemience. It's Hollywood that really wants them.
03:32 PM on 06/21/2011
They're fun to have around, but it's more like inviting over a friend instead of a landlord.

POOPH it is done! And if they continue, you can get a restraining order so that they cannot come near your house ever again.

Most Canadians are a little more charitable than you appear to be. !!

the world saw how 'charitable' the royal family was by their reaction to Dianna's death

You can bet the American taxpayer is not paying for their Holiday there. Enough of these freeloaders.
04:40 PM on 06/21/2011
Oh be quiet. The cost to host them is miniscule and Canadians will come out in droves to catch a glimpse.

you mean like the Vancouver riot?
