THE CANADIAN PRESS -- PACHUCA, Mexico - Canadian goalkeeper Quillan Roberts has entered the record books with his goal against England at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The 16-year-old Toronto FC academy 'keeper boomed a kick from just inside his side of the halfway line and then watched as it bounced over a pair of players trying to get their head onto it and then into the net over the lunging English goalie.

The 87th-minute goal Wednesday gave Canada a 2-2 tie and its first point at the tournament in 14 tries.

It also marked the first goal scored by a goalkeeper in any FIFA 11-a-side finals competition.

"I was just trying to get it on (teammate) Sadi Jalali's head," Roberts said after the game. "It just took a lucky bounce and went over the goalie."

When one keeper scores from his own half it often seems that the other keeper is at fault.

Probably the first, and last time Canada is ever mentioned for anything spectacular when it comes to soccer.

Right. Other than the Gold Cup win for the Men's team, the 4th place finish at the World Cup for the Women's tean, and the 2nd place finish for the Women's U20 team at the Word Championships. Not to mention the #6 world ranking and recent CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying 1st place finish for the Women's team and numerous top two finishes in just about every CONCACAF tournament they enter. All since 2000. Oh yeah, and the first ever Olympic Gold Medal in Men's soccer.
