Jean Charest To Miss Council Of The Federation Meeting For Daughter's Wedding
THE CANADIAN PRESS -- QUEBEC - Premier Jean Charest will miss next month's Council of the Federation meeting because he'll be attending his daughter's wedding.
It will be the first time Charest has missed the meeting with other provincial premiers since he helped create the council in 2003.
Hugo D'Amours, Charest's media spokesman, says the premier will be replaced at the meeting by Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Pierre Moreau.
The annual premiers' meeting will take place July 20-22 in Vancouver.
The theme this year will focus on economic opportunities in the Asia-Pacific area.
Other issues that could arise are Senate and health-care reform -- although no official agenda has been released.
Charest's daughter will be married in civil and religious ceremonies in France on July 21 and July 23.
Charest is now on a five-day tour of Europe to promote his government's plan to develop Quebec's north.
