The next 3 or 4 years are going to be painful for anyone paying attention. The dumbing down of society continues.

The war on facts continues. This seems innocuous, but it should really be pretty alarming. If you give it more than a moments thought, you realizethat the collection of this information can't cost any significant amount of money.

So who gains by our not having those numbers?

At the current regime's direction, I have no doubt whatsoever that Statistics Canada will be directed to stop tracking all sorts of data that could prove useful in gauging federally funded programmes that support vulnerable segments of the population (such as anything funded federally that might counsel or support children from broken marriages). As soon as the government can deem itself ignorant of the need for any social supports it will be able to justify cutting them, claiming that it can't seem to find a need for them any longer. No mystery here folks.
