Harper and more than a dozen guests reportedly dropped by at the Broadway Driving Range and Miniature Golf Course in Depew, outside Buffalo.

Owner Tom Straus tells YNN cable news in New York state that he was notified a day earlier that an important dignitary planned to play at his course.

Straus said the prime minister paid for his group's round of golf.

He also stopped to pose for pictures with other customers. Two girls got his autograph.

Straus told the station that Harper was in the Buffalo area on personal business and was travelling with family members.

The Prime Minister's Office said today Harper took the family on a day trip where they played some mini-golf, had lunch and enjoyed the day together.

Harper was in Brampton, Ont., today for a ceremony in honour of Korean War veterans.

I find the mini-putt greens in America faster than the greens in Canada . . .

This is not news.

yeah, harpo had to go to his adopted homeland (america) cause lord knows there aren't any driving ranges or mini putt courses in ontario, canada

this guy wants to become the Governor of state of Canada

If he picked up the WHOLE tab then there's no reason to be mad. If he is billing us for the trip like he did watching game 4 and paying for a fraction of it himself I would like to withhold that amount from my 2011 income tax, he doesn't pay for my concert tickets, I won't pick up the tab for his mini golf.

I'm an NDP supporter but I'm totally fine with this. I say let the man enjoy some mini-putt with family and friends.

I am no fan of Stephen Harper but what he does on his own time and with his own money is his business. What's next: posting pictures of Mrs Harper so we can grade them and write nasty comments about how she looks or how much she spent??

who paid for the plane ride there? last time he when to watch game 4 in boston. the plane cost 30K/hour and he remimbured taxpayers $535 for each of the 5 people. does that make sense to you?

Sorry, did they say a dignitary was visiting? Who did they mean? There is nothing dignified about Harper Inc.

"Dignitary" simply denotes a person of high rank or office. I think "Prime Minister of Canada" fits the definition.

I don't like Stephen Harper any more than you do--probably less, actually--but lame insults like this aren't helpful.

He was just protecting his reputation in case he had a bad game. Soooo hard to see the golf ball with such a pot belly.

Come on Harper, you were really in Buffalo to do some cross-border shopping...Did you dump the shoe boxes from Payless at the last rest-stop before the bridge?
02:02 PM on 07/27/2011
Harper just wanted his family to see how beautiful Buffalo is and how he and others could contribute to the american economy by visiting America and spending money there rather than in Canada.

Good ole' Steve. Forever playing with his balls in the US of A. Now put the putter down and do some real work in Canada, eh?
