EDMONTON - Police say a deliberate explosion tore through an Edmonton seniors complex where the bodies of two residents were found.
A second fire was also set in a car parked in a lot behind the Bethany Senior Citizens Home, an independent living centre for low-income seniors on the city's south side.
Homicide Det. Dwayne Lakusta says the sequence of events is not yet clear, but investigators believe the car was set on fire before the explosion in the building.
He says it's a possibility one of the victims was responsible.
Sixty people were forced from the building in the Old Strathcona district, while one woman had to be rescued from her third-floor suite.
Fire officials estimate the explosion has caused $1.3 million in damage.
