NEW ORLEANS - A federal jury has convicted five current or former police officers of civil rights violations in the deadly shootings on a New Orleans bridge after Hurricane Katrina.

All five officers were convicted Friday of charges stemming from the coverup of the shootings. The four who had been charged with civil rights violations in the shootings were convicted on all counts.

Prosecutors said police shot six unarmed people, killing two, on the Danziger Bridge less than a week after the 2005 storm. Officers also were charged with participating in a coverup to make the shootings appear justified.

Defence attorneys said the officers were shot at before they returned fire and acted reasonably in the face of a deadly threat.

Remember kids, it's never murder if you have a badge.

Killed a couple of starving, distressed people, one a 17 year old? They shot at me first, though I have no concrete evidence of that.

Killed a couple of toddlers? One was holding a rattle that looked like a gun.

Remember, you're never wrong.

It's a crying shame the prosecution didn't have enough to convict on murder, it happens.
But don't turf all Police officers in the same dog bag....
From what I've read, that locality knew that some of their officers weren't stellar.

Cheers.
