A Vancouver police officer is under investigation for allegedly being too violent during an arrest in the 100 block of West Broadway on Friday.

Sgt. Elly Sawchuck of the Abbotsford Police Department said that a man allegedly spat on a Vancouver police officer, who then reacted with force.

"The man suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital," Sawchuk said in a written statement.

The Vancouver Police Department asked the Abbotsford Police Department to conduct an investigation into the incident.

The investigation is in early stages, and the APD will not disclose any further details at this time, Sawchuk said.

The Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner has also been notified.
