Lisa LaFlamme Is CTV's New Chief News Anchor: Who Are Canada's Women In Broadcast Television? (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post Canada   First Posted: 09/05/11 04:50 PM ET   Updated: 11/02/11 06:12 AM ET

CTV National News anchor Lloyd Robertson had his final sign off Sept. 1 after 60 years in broadcast television.

CTV announced last summer that the network's national affairs correspondent Lisa LaFlamme would take over for Robertson as chief news anchor. LaFlamme's first broadcast aired Sept. 5.

LaFlamme becomes the second woman to anchor a weeknight national newscast -- Dawna Friesen currently anchors Global TV's nightly news report. Many of you responded to our gallery with comments on other women anchors. Check out our updated gallery with some new additions.

She spent the the last decade covering the aftermath of 9/11 in New York and Afghanistan and was one of the first reporters on site in Haiti after the 2010 earthquakes. The buttons on her jacket clearly look like nipples. She gets an F for attention to detail. :P

What about Sophie Thibault anchoring at TVA since 2002 ? Back then, she was the first woman to anchor a weeknight national newscast in North America. I guess French newscast doesn't count...

Lisa Laflamme is not in the same league yet as Dawna Friesen over at Global. And holding up the rear is self important Peter Mansbridge. CBC needs to retire Peter and replace him with Wendy Mesley.

You beat me to it. I was actually writing this when your post showed up. Céline Galipeau has done an amazing job in replacing Bernard Derome. Many thought "Le Téléjournal" would not survive his departure. Quite the contrary. I find Céline more interesting to listen too, and a much better interviewer than Derome ever was.
