The hockey world reeled from a deadly plane crash that killed most of the KHL's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. The team, one of the Russian league's best, featured a number of former NHLers and elite players from around Europe.
"The plane with our team was supposed to take off around 4 p.m. At first we didn't want to believe it. But right now there is no hope. The team is gone," a Lokomotiv spokesman told Russian sports news outlet SovSport earlier on Wednesday.
