Funeral for cyclist hit by truck load

The funeral for a cyclist killed in a highway accident on Newfoundland's Bonavista Peninsula Friday was held Monday.

Police say Douglas Hancock, 60, died after he was hit by roof trusses that were sticking out of the side of a passing flatbed truck. It was heading south on Route 230, near Morley's Siding.

“He was a very outstanding gentleman a very humble person a friend to everyone who met him,” said Isaac Hutchings, the minister at the Anglican Church in Brooklyn.

“I've heard nothing but wonderful comments about how well he treated everyone who came in contact with him. I was quite devastated.”

Hutching said Hancock, a resident of Brooklyn, was a well-respected treasurer at the local church.

The RCMP are still investigating the incident.
