WINNIPEG - Manitoba Liberals would like expanded rapid transit in Winnipeg and are offering cash to make it happen.

Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard says if he were premier he'd give the city $44 million a year to put toward an extension of a rapid transit line that is currently being built.

Gerrard says it only makes sense to continue the line south to the University of Manitoba, where a new stadium is being built for the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The city has not committed to the extension and has held different positions on whether rapid transit should involve buses, streetcars or light rail.

Gerrard says he would work with the city to ensure the extension got started sometime after the Oct. 4 provincial election.

Currently, Winnipeg's rapid transit line is just 3.7 kilometres.

Ugh.....I can't stand this. How can a nothing leader and nothing party say this? Actually they can say we will solve all of your problems. Why? because they don't have the faintest chance of winning a seat. This isn't Sharon Carstairs world. Like man Sam Katz can't get off his butt to solve this problem. Buses or rail, buses or rail. This goes on day and night. The new stadium is being built and where are the cars going to go? Sam Katz has been soft selling Winnipeg south including Lindenwoods, Richmond West, White Ridge with tax freezes all for the purpose of developing the south with the Stadium at the expense of the north and east. Don't forget there were original proposals in those areas but nothing happened. Well, it wasn't planed to happen. He can't even solve the infrastucture problem. So if you think this is a meaningful offering then switch it up to a party that might win.
