Crime Scene

A Montreal daycare struck by arson three times in the past two weeks was raided two years ago during an international ID fraud probe.

Fire trucks have been called to the Bébé Einstein Daycare three times since Sept. 3, to deal with Molotov cocktail attacks on the centre.

Two of those calls came in Tuesday – the first, in the early morning after remnants of a Molotov cocktail were found near the building.

Police were called back to the Rivières-des-Prairies daycare at 11 p.m. Tuesday, after receiving a call about a firebombing.

No one was hurt in either incident, which caused minimal damage.

The same daycare was attacked by arson Sept. 3 in another situation that caused minimal damage.

Police won't speculate why the daycare has been repeatedly targeted.

But the child centre was raided in 2009 during a major crackdown on international ID fraud.

The daycare, then called a different name, was one of several locations Canadian authorities raided in the counterfeit document probe.

Authorities said at the time that phony credit cards, drivers' licenses and passports were being manufactured on the premises.

At the time, parents with children at the daycare were shocked, even though police insisted the counterfeit scam had nothing to do with the child care centre.
