Autopsy results have confirmed the three people found dead in Gatineau, Que., last week were killed by gunshots in a double-murder suicide.
The investigation revealed Patrick Mongeon-Johnson, 32, shot his mother Lucie Johnson, 51, and her husband, Denis Lagacé, 59, before taking his own life.
Police said Mongeon-Johnson had lived with his mother for some years.
They also confirmed the weapon was a 9mm handgun, which was legally registered to Mongeon-Johnson. Police would not go into details about his mental state.
A visitor discovered all three bodies at about 7 p.m. on Sept. 7. Gatineau police found a gun near the three family members and called it a violent incident.
