FREDERICTON - New Brunswick's finance minister has announced a review of public-sector pension plans in the province.

Blaine Higgs says the review is to ensure the pension plans are affordable, sustainable and have secure benefits.

The review will be done by a three-person panel that is already examining private-sector pensions in New Brunswick.

Higgs says the group is best suited to conduct the review because they have already accumulated significant information on various plans and regulations.

Gordon Black, regional director with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, is concerned about possible changes and says his employees will take a stand to protect their pensions during contract negotiations.

No date has been set for the review to be completed.
