WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets are planning to help inner-city kids after school.

The NHL team joined Manitoba NDP Leader Greg Selinger on the campaign trail to announce a new mentorship program.

It will offer troubled high school students after-school instruction in sports management, marketing and other topics.

Selinger says businesses will be asked to take part in the program, which is based on an after-school initiative in Chicago.

The NDP says youth who took part in the Chicago program earned better grades and missed fewer days of school.
