Pedestrian killed in Burnaby

Burnaby RCMP say a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car early Saturday morning.

Police say the accident happened just before 5 a.m. at Lougheed Highway and Phillips Avenue.

The victim is a man believed to be in his 20s. His name has not been released.

Police say the driver remained at the scene and called 911.

"The male driver was detained for an imparied driving investigation and alcohol is believed to be a factor in this collision," said RCMP Cpl. John MacAdam.

Police say the streets were slick from rain at the time, which may have also contributed to the accident.

Lougheed Highway was closed for several hours while police investigated.
