Dave Thomas Of SCTV Hoser Fame Among High-Profile Canadians Backing Oilsands Protest

Dave Thomas Oil Sands Protest

EDMONTON - A famous TV hoser and several other Canadian actors say they support a protest planned by Greenpeace in Ottawa against the oilsands industry.

Dave Thomas of SCTV fame says he opposes TransCanada PipeLine's (TSX:TCA.PR.X) proposed Keystone XL line that would ship oilsands crude from Alberta to refineries in the U.S.

Thomas, perhaps best known for portraying beer-drinking lout Doug McKenzie, says the pipeline would be an environmental disaster that must be stopped.

Greenpeace says it hopes to muster hundreds of protesters Monday in front of the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill.

Other Canadian actors who say they support the planned sit-in include Graham Greene, Mia Kirshner and Kate Vernon.

It is not clear which, if any, of the actors will actually attend the demonstration.

Dave Thomas's father, the late Dr. John Thomas was Canadian pioneer in the world of medical ethics.

It is fitting to see his son participate in this ethical discussion.

That's so cool eh? Found out some good news today too. Legislation signed by George Bush, section 526 prohibits the purchase of oil more polluting than conventional oil. This could mean the end of the Keystone pipeline!

Well...it's a start.

For those of you torn between environmental concerns versus the prosperity that tar sands revenues appear to bring in the short term let me say this :

The meek shall inherit nothing.
If you think the profits will be for the benefit of Canadian society , well, you will be in for a big surprise. Mark my words.

As seen in the current trend in the U.S. of Dumbfuckistan : Profits are private, losses are socialized.
