Canada Real Estate: Here Are The 5 Most Expensive Houses For Sale In The Country (PHOTOS)

Canada Real Estate Most Expensive Houses

The Huffington Post Canada   First Posted: 10/12/11 02:26 PM ET Updated: 12/12/11 05:12 AM ET

Canadians tend not to think of their home country as a playground for the rich, but a quick survey of real estate listings shows there are plenty of places for the truly wealthy to call their own.

As of Wednesday, there were 89 homes in Canada listed at $10 million or more. And in a sign of the potency of Canada's condo market, the number-two home on the list is a Vancouver condo with an asking price of $28.8 million.

But the astronomical prices at the very top end of the residential real estate market may obscure a reality that isn't quite as rosy as some would believe. Many high-end homes have been languishing for months on the market. The home at number three in the list below, in Toronto's Bridle Path, has been on sale since at least January.

Check out our Top 5 list of the most expensive homes in Canada:

STOP MONEY PORN!

The message of the OCCUPY world movements is this:

STOP THE PORNOGRAPHY OF MONEY

and the adulation of wealth of which this "story" is a prime example.

I dare you to publish this.

I hope less and less of such " stories" are published, as popular movements knock some decency
into media editor's beans.

At least the rich in Canada pay a slightly higher tax rate than their secretaries.

There use to be a house for sale in Ontario for over $40 million or was it $65 million. Not sure if it was sold for that price or not, seeing the guy that was building it went belly up.

I'm in lower middle class, but I'm not angry that there are people who can afford to live in these houses. People get so jealous of others' success that they automatically assume that those who live in these houses must have earned their wealth through lying, cheating, stealing, and backstabbing. And, what if these people got rich by engaging in immoral activities? Let ye who hasn't sinned cast the first stone. We all sin and do bad things; some people are just better at financially optimizing their sins.

Who in the "-F-" cares? People are hurting. People are hungry. People are homeless. And I'm supposed to care about the 5 most expensive homes for sale in Canada? Gawd, just give 'em all to Harper. He's scr-ooing over the country 10 fold. He can easily be bought.

You have very little idea about Harper - show us proof about your allegations. Harper is a middle class economist who has little to do with the finance community which is why they all vote for Liberal or NDP - check Toronto's voting record. He has focused on helping the small business owners who produce half the wealth of Canada by simplifying their taxes and reducing red tape. Canada is probably the best place to raise a family for the next 20 years while the rest of the world digs itself out of their socialist hole. Your ideology is blinding you.

Good job posting the top 5 overindulgent houses that should burn to the ground. If the GOP keeps calling OWS and unruly mob, the more likely it will come true.

Only one home from Toronto? There is a home about 2 blocks from my condo in the Forest Hill neighborhood of Toronto. It was sold about 14 months ago for $12.5 million, and is now back on the market for $14 million. They are also building several new skyscraper condominium buildings in the downtown area (75+ stories). Penthouse suites in these new buildings begin at the bargain price of $17.5 million. I have no idea why someone would pay that amount of money to live so high in the sky that you will only see the tops of the clouds. I live on the 22nd floor of my condo complex, and when it's foggy, I literally can't see a thing beyond the railing of my balcony. I can only imagine how dense it would be at that level...not to mention how windy it would be at that height.

I am in Rosedale and houses are getting bought by Russian, Iranian, Indian and Chinese. These new neighbours of mine are often gone for long periods because they are not full time in Canada. Property is a great way to park money in the super safe country of Canada. A Rosedale home is more than a 500 acre chunk of land up north. So prices of houses get out of reach for the average Canadian. Watch for inflation - we are not the US.

The Vancouver ones are kind of plain and ugly. The Toronto and Montreal houses are probably a b*gger to heat.

And you wonder why people are up in arms about the distribution in wealth, its sickening when one person can afford to live in one of these, and there are too many people living on the streets in Canada!

Canadians have been suddenly introduced to global competition. The world's smartest and brightest come to Canada and compete with the local Canadians who do not have a hope. I would rather live in a free Canada where you can get a decent salary and water out of the tap that you can drink - even China does not have that. I would rather live where there are many billionaires than in a country where the government head has the billions and then the army. Lived in that scenario and there are many more starving but with broken bones from govt thugs. Even the poorest of Americans have more than 38% of the world.
