Five teenagers in Eastern Ontario have been charged with gang sex assault in connection with an attack on a woman in Belleville, Ont., in August.

Belleville police say a woman was approached on a street by a group of six males early on the morning of Aug. 6, taken to the backyard of a home and sexually assaulted. She was treated at Belleville General Hospital and released.

In addition to the gang sex assault charge, the five teens have been charged with aggravated sexual assault and robbery.

The five males were arrested in mid-September: two 17-year-olds from Belleville; a 17-year-old from Eldorado; a 15-year-old from Trenton; and a 14-year-old from Tyendinaga Township .

All but the 14-year-old have been charged with breaching probation.

The two Belleville teens will appear in youth court Nov. 1, while the others are scheduled to appear Oct. 18.

Well, here on HuffPo, we all know that jail time will do no good 'cause that would play into Harper's agenda to get tougher on crime. And he's a right-winger out to destroy Canada.
And they're just kids, eh? -
Give them a few more months on probabtion and a few hours of community service.

While I like the idea of the Young Offenders Act - a foolish act by a child should not ruin their entire life; but it is time to tweak the law. Media bans are fine - but adult sentencing for violent crimes committed by teens, and their record does not get expunged.

Stealing your mom's car is one thing, instigating a brutal gang rape is quite the other.

Does Canada have life sentences for juveniles? I hope so because this would be a perfect case for it.

I hope this young girl is doing much better. This is simply barbaric. Im certain these animals will get their just reward. The level at which some people exist these days is sickening.

Since this didn't happen in the US, It's going to be interesting to see how the Obama haters will find a way to lay blame for this on him.

Four of them on probation before they're even 18...can we please get these kids into family councilling or something before they all turn into career sexual predators? I don't care how old someone is, if they rape another person they should be on a publicly available list of sexual offenders for life without ANY chance of being removed.

I also think that young offenders as they are called, should not have their names hidden at all. f and f

For a long time, I didn't think this was a good idea, but with sex crimes, at least, I think they should have their names made public.

I hope the "or something" you refer to is a jail. The 17 yr olds can all be tried as adults, especially since they are already on probation. And their damn names better get on a list NOW, not IF they rape another person. Gang rape and robbery aren't solved with family counseling, they are solved with incarceration.

I'm in favour of counselling, once they are in jail. We owe it to potential future victims to do everything possible to turn these creeps into decent human beings. They will get out someday, even if they get the sentences they deserve. Unfortunately, sexual violence may well be an ongoing problem where they're incarcerated. I agree - jail and life-long inclusion in the publicly available sex-offenders club membership.

These kids are a product of their environment. We need stop relying on patch work laws and change the environment people are being raised in today. Here is a link to the state of the monetary system now, how it affects the people, and what is a World Resource Economy.
