WINNIPEG - Police in Winnipeg say they've caught two children wanted in a string of robberies where one of the suspects held up businesses while armed with bear spray.

Investigators say the first two incidents incident happened Wednesday night when two boys, aged 13 and 10, showed up at a convenience store and a discount store.

The older boy concealed his identity and tried to rob the stores with bear spray, and the pair managed to get away with cash in one of the robberies.

The next night, the older boy broke into a locked grocery store and took money from the till.

A clerk who was there let her dog off its leash, and police say the boy discharged the bear spray at them, and then took off with cash.

Police say they tracked down the older boy, and then later found the younger one.

The 13-year-old faces numerous charges, but the 10-year-old is too young to be charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Wiinnipegi s a very unsafe city. The problems have been continously covered up and glossed over by other successful events such as the return of the Jets, the improvement of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the new stadium and certianly the Human Rights museum but have been recently offset by Air Canada's statement regarding the safety of its personnel. To add, the Assemby of Chiefs for Manitoba have asked for an apology regarding the remarks. What ever! The fact of the matter is the downtown has been in continuous decay regardless of the building of the MTS Centre. This city can't even make a decision about the old Metropolitan Theatre. It's been boarded up for maybe 20 years. Walking on the street at most times of the day is risky unless you use the series of glass bridges and passages from building to building. Pandhandlers lurk on every corner. Stabbings occur. Rapes and assaults. Occur. Cars get broken in. The mayor and his counterparts gloss things over and deflect the conversation. The Sun has done a good job of covering the crime beat but until the city really takes a proactive approach to this on going drifter problem it will only get worse. So far they wait for winter and a lot of this stuff moves in doors.

That's why the city has crept to the burbs and the inner city is in collapse. Would you walk on Ellice or Sargeant after sun down? Would you walk through Central Park? Would you walk on William, maybe, the hospital is just down the steeet.

Well, the 10 year old should be soundly whipped and the 13 year old beaten to a pulp.
