A 21-year-old man who was already charged in the slaying of a 15-year-old girl has now been charged in the deaths of three women, say RCMP in Prince George, B.C.

Cody Legebokoff was charged in late 2010 with first-degree murder in the death of Loren Donn Leslie, 15, whose body was found on a remote logging road just off Highway 27 near Vanderhoof, B.C., last November.

On Monday, police announced Legebokoff is now facing three new counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Jill Stacey Stuchenko, Cynthia Frances Maas and Natasha Lynn Montgomery following a 10-month investigation.

Legebokoff is being held at the Prince George Regional Correctional Centre.

At a news conference in Prince George, attended by members of the media and representatives from local First Nations communities, police said they believe Legebokoff acted alone.

Police said the investigation was "far from over," as investigators are looking for witnesses and additional victims.

It's believed Legebokoff used the internet and social media websites to meet women, frequently using the online name 1CountryBoy, and he lived in Lethbridge, Alta., from June 2008 to 2009, said police.

Deaths date back to 2009

Stuchenko, 35, was found dead in a gravel pit off Otway Road, on the outskirts of Prince George, in 2009.

Montgomery, 23, originally from Quesnel, was reported missing in August 2010. Her body has not been found, but police say they are working hard to locate her remains.

Maas, 35, went missing in September 2010. Her remains were found in L.C. Gunn Park, in a remote area of Prince George, the following month.

In a written statement released on Monday, Maas's family described her as a "poster child for vulnerability in our society."

"We are concerned about all the other unsolved missing and murdered women," the statement read. "Murders do not just harm families but our society is harmed as we forget and are numbed by senseless violence perpetrated against women portrayed as deserving of death."

In September, the B.C. Missing Women Inquiry held a series of forums in northern B.C. to hear from the families of missing and murdered women in the area. At least 18 young women have been murdered or gone missing on a 700-kilometre stretch of Highway 16, the so-called Highway of Tears, between Prince George and Prince Rupert. None of the cases have been solved.

Leslie's body was found just off Highway 27 in November 2010.

Police have not revealed how Leslie died, but her remains were sent to the United States for investigation by a specialist.

Leslie, who was visually impaired, was a Grade 10 student at Nechako Valley Secondary School in Vanderhoof.

Earlier this year, police interrogated more than 140 Prince George taxi drivers in connection with the deaths of Maas and Stuchenko.

The manager of P.G. Taxi told CBC News at the time that all of his drivers had been interviewed by police and asked for DNA samples as part of an investigation into several murders.

Difficult time for families

In a written release, RCMP Insp. Brendan Fitzpatrick said the victims' families have been notified.

"It was evident by our meeting ... these women were all very vibrant, talented and loving. They were all mothers, daughters, and aunts and possess large extended families who miss them tremendously. The families request privacy at this very sad time," said Fitzpatrick.

"We also respect news of this development and the charges will be met with mixed emotions by the community. These are difficult and complex investigations that require a dedicated team of resources. This group and particularly the RCMP remain committed to ensuring justice is delivered."

Fitzpatrick said police are limited in the amount of information they can release, but he confirmed police executed two search warrants at Legebokoff's home during the course of the investigation.

"It was a combination of many factors, along with a dedicated team of investigators that has brought us to the point where these additional three charges can be laid," Fitzpatrick said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call a special tip line that has been established for the case at 1-877-987-8477.

Empty eyes ,,,bet he won't do that much time in Canada. They will let him loose after a few years.

really?

With the exception of Karla Homolka Canada does a pretty good job of locking up our murderers... And I'd rather have 100 Karla Homolkas than 1 Cameron Willingham.

This is a serious case for the death penalty to be brought back to Canada. Robert Pickton and Clifford Olson should have been put down years ago. Add this killer to the list. No remorse. Why are we so liberal when it comes to the criminal? EYE for an EYE. Here is a quote from one of Clifford s victims families..... How can you put feelings into words,” Bizeau said. “All I feel right now is that it’s finally over. Justice has finally been done. I hope that whatever they do, if they bury him or cremate him, I hope they cremate him and flush his ashes in the toilet.

yes lets move civilization back 100 years, the death penalty is archaic, eye for an eye is ridiculous and people who clamor for extreme sentence deserve little.

One thing I can tell from your comment is that you have never lost anyone to a violent serial killer that enjoyed every minute of ending that persons life. Once you have....tell me what they deserve. Tell me when will you will find closure. Until then you should have no opinion on the subject. You will never be able to imagine the hate or the anger you will feel. Then imagine your self in front of them. What you want to do.......I know I could. Would you find fault with that too? If so...let me ask you....have you ever loved so much it hurts?

If we practice an eye for an eye, the whole world would be blind.

Canada does not have the death penalty as they believe that killing is wrong. Killing killers does not make you justified by having the state sanction the murder.

In the US, Cameron Willingham was executed in Texas for killing his children via arson. Modern scientific evidence proved beyond a doubt that the fire was a result of faulty wiring, not arson. This man was inprisoned for more than a decade and then murdered by the state because Texas was unable to accept the evidence that they were wrong in their initial assessments.
How many more innocent people have been executed because of some mistake? Is the taking of even one innocent life worth the satisfaction of revenge you feel when someone is executed?

Canada is more civilized than many people here can ever be. They incarcerate criminals for life without parole.

There is an obvious difference to the 2 situations. A serial Killer has an addiction which is incurable. They are sick twisted individuals that according to you should live among us. Are you saying that convicting this man would be a mistake? The RCMP are so careful about making a conviction today many murders are still walking free in Canada because they are so afraid. This is not the US system and yes these people should still be put down. Have mercy on the living. Lets put them in a room with you alone. What would you be wishing then?

Oh-Oh. Love Canada, but he'll be out of prison before he's 40- to kill again. If it's like that Bernardo woman, maybe before he's 30. Agree with the comments about the parents; probably ignored everything bad and defended little Cody's every foul deed. Many kids in Canada, like in the US are being raised to be sociopaths. Modern parenting calls it "unconditional love" or insuring the child has high 'self esteem".

I find it hard to believe, at no time during his childhood or teenage years
his parents couldn't see their kid was SERIOUSLY messed up.

The Columbine kid's parents had no idea he had all those guns

A sociopath learns to mimic acceptable behavior. They control their actions in the proper settings. Ted Bundy was a nice guy who was a rising star in the GOP. He was a good student, and was kind to the old woman he rented a room from, doing repairs around the house and spending evenings playing card games with her. He volunteered at a Suicide Hotline several evening s a week.
Everyone thought Ted was a great guy to everyone, except the women and girls that he kidnapped, tortured, raped and practiced necrophilia on.
You can't tell an organized sociopathic serial killer from a regular person because they are very good at hiding their aberrancies from other people.

The goal here should be to try to forget this monsters name and instead memorialize the names of his undeserving victims. Prison will not be kind to this aberration and rightly so.

If this madman killed 4 women, it's a good thing he was apprehended when he's only 21 years old. 75 to 80 years behind bars will do his soul good. How Karla Homolka escaped dangerous offender status is beyond reason, but this perp won't leave prison alive if he's convicted.

75-80 years is extreme.. 20 years max.. Rehabilitation works, counseling programs work. Many are just so stuck on frontier justice, eye for an eye and this archaic system within the prison complex in which people are given amazingly long sentences that do nothing to help a person.

Sitting in a cell does not help a person, getting treatment and rehabilitation does.

Sweden, Germany and pretty much every Scandinavian country all have the perfect system in place when it comes to sentencing and rehabilitation. Calling eye for an eye is childish, petty and shows a direct lack of intelligence in people.
