Rob Ford Calls Police After CBC Crew With 'This Hour Has 22 Minutes' Visits Home

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford called police after a crew from CBC's satirical show This Hour Has 22 Minutes showed up unexpectedly outside his house to interview him.

"I came out of my house and I was ambushed," Ford said.

Actress Mary Walsh, playing the character of journalist Marg Delahunty, was trying to interview Ford for a regular segment on This Hour Has 22 Minutes, in which Delahunty approaches politicians for surprise comedic interviews. Scores of Canadian politicians, including former Ontario premier Mike Harris, Quebec Premier Jean Charest and former prime minister Jean Chrétien, have been subjected to Walsh's surprise approach. Most try to endure the questions in Walsh's mock interviews with good humour.

But Ford was not laughing after Walsh's visit.

It was dark, Ford told reporters Monday evening, and two people who didn't identify themselves came running out of a car parked outside his home in Etobicoke and stopped him from getting into his car.

"There was a lady dressed up and she was screaming my name: 'We got you Rob Ford, we got you,'" Ford said, adding that his six-year-old daughter was frightened and went back into the home.

Ford said he went back into his house and called 911.

"I didn't know who they were and obviously I've had death threats and there was a camera and a mic," he said. "I'm open to the media, but when you come to my private house early in the morning and ambush me, I think that crosses the line."

CBC spokesman Chris Ball confirmed the show tried to interview Ford outside his home for an upcoming segment of the show.

"These surprise interviews are what 22 Minutes are known for and have been a part of the show for years," Ball said. "The interview began at the end of his driveway and concluded shortly thereafter. The crew had no interaction with the Toronto police."

Apparently Marg Delahunty wasn't enough. Perhaps we need to send Mark McKinney from Kids In The Hall in to "crush his head". Now granted that is a gargantuan cranium that may require some serious crushing, but that would be doing the citizens of Toronto a favour.

I'm OK if we make the rest of his term as uncomfortable for him as he intends on making it for all of us lower and middle class Torontonians down-town.

It couldn't get funnier: A big man known for bullying running away from a lady in costume?
Also is this the same guy who is so concerned about children that he endangers them by talking on his cellphone while driving, then gives the mom the finger in full view of her kids?

It was the microphone that worried him. An unscripted quote could be fatal to his political career.

You mean he still has a political career?

Geez. I wonder what Ford would have done if Dakey Dunn had showed up instead of Marg, Princess Warrior?

The mark of a true coward?

Using a six year old girl as an excuse for his own behaviour.

Didn't know who she was.

PLEASE!

The best part is when you watch the video you see that either A) He lied about the child in the car or B) He just left the child in the car to fend for herself.

I am so glad I didn't vote for Rob Ford.

He is the worst kind of human being. Apparently, he also verbally abused the 911 dispatch.

Not surprising, since I know for a fact that he is belligerent with the 911 responders who have dragged his alcohol soaked carcass to the emerg on more than one occasion.

What a disgrace to the city and the nation.

In an earlier statement Ford said it was dark outside and the crew scared his daughter, so he called the police. Police? Afraid of Marg Delahunty? Ha ha!

what a humourless, dour, excuse for a human being. this guy has absolutely no self-confidence (and i can't say that's misguided), and is not fit to be an Animal Control Officer, never mind Mayor of a world-class city. Three more years of this, Four more years of Harper...the 2000-teens are gonna s*ck big time.

This man is nearly as embarrassing as the voters that elected him. Toronto should be ashamed for putting him in a position of power.

What's going to happen now that the entire country sees it and then that gives Canadians another reason to not like Toronto. Toronto used to be called Toronto the Good, now with this guy running things, it should be called Toronto the Dumb! The man has no sense of humor. I hope that Torontonians will say enough is enough when it's time to vote this man out. You guys made a mistake, that's fine, he told you what you wanted to hear and you voted for him. Only problem is that in future you should be able to impeach and remove your politicians! Way to go Toronto.

I am sure people will not stop visiting Toronto just because of misplaced votes for the mayor. A recall procedure would be welcomed, though.

I have seen the clip on "22 Minutes" this evening.

It was not dark out; it was morning and overcast, not dark. I did not see any child. Nor did Ms. Walsh "ambush" Mayor Ford in the conventional sense; she simply walked up to him. He refused to speak to her; she identified herself as Marg Delahunty: "Come all the way from Newfoundland to help you, dearie". He kept his face away from the cameras. She then left him when asked (as far as I could tell).

Film crews are a common sight in Toronto. CBC film and/or news crews usually travel in a white van emblazoned with the CBC logo. The cameras also have the logo prominently displayed. To claim that he did not know who they were is absolutely ludicrous.

I will agree that technically Ms. Walsh was trespassing. However, since she left the property, calling 911 seems, to me, to be excessive to say the least.

In my personal opinion, Mr. Ford is a boob and an idiot and a sad waste of DNA. Even though I no longer live in The Centre of the Universe (Toronto), it is my fervent hope that he is a 1 term mayor.

This type of humor is stale and lame. It's time for Mary Walsh to find another occupation.
Sorry Mary, but you are NOT FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!
