Toronto Fashion Week has come to a close. And while there was a chill in the air, thanks to decidedly cooler fall temperatures, the tents at David Pecaut Square were filled with hot looks that had us daydreaming of spring. What will we be filling our closets with once the snow melts in 2012? Here's a list of the top five trends we'll be making room for.
Florals
April's showers give way to May's flowers, or so the saying goes. Which is why, seemingly, each year florals make an appearance on spring/summer runways -- and Toronto's 2012 fashion shows were no exception. (Quel surprise.) Thankfully there was a lot of variety in the floral palettes from designers for next season -- from bold prints to bright colours and more muted hues, there was a petal-powered look to satisfy just about everyone.

Sheer
As the barometer climbs we Canadians start to shed our wintery layers -- we forgo woolen sweaters for sheer tops (which look oh-so-sexy when paired with a tight tank or lacy bra). So it's no surprise that sheer looks dominated the runways at Toronto Fashion Week. From the typical blouses to some more adventurous and floor-length dresses, it's clear sheer will be a staple for spring.

Black And White
Not into the flowy or floral styles that are typical of spring fashion? Designers have come up with a bold solution for you: wear black and white in whatever combination you want. From psychedelic prints to boldly patterned shirts and even trench coats, this classic colour combination looks good on just about everyone. It's also the perfect look to carry from day to night.

Eye-Popping Colour
As the days get longer, our wardrobes seem to get a little bit brighter (that might have something to do with our desire to shake off the cooler, greyer days of winter and to will spring our way). It's a trend that's unlikely to disappear from runways -- or our wardrobes -- any time soon. This spring expect to see colours like emerald green, sunshine yellow and royal blue just about everywhere. Wear the colours from head to toe or use them to add a "pop" to a neutral outfit.

Bold Cuts
While the jersey dress made an appearance on several catwalks (making spring 2012 look decidedly relaxed), it was bold tailoring and silhouettes that really ruled the runways at Toronto Fashion Week. From Grecian-inspired one-shoulder designs to shoulderless (but still sleeved) tops and tunics, many of the looks showcased had a structured feel. Extremely tailored blazers and pantsuits will also be smart bets for spring.
