Stephen Harper: How Much Do You Really Know About Canada's Prime Minister (QUIZ)

The Huffington Post Canada   First Posted: 11/16/11 04:29 PM ET   Updated: 11/16/11 04:56 PM ET

Stephen Harper has been Canada's Prime Minister since 2006 and will be until at least 2015, by which time he will have become the sixth longest serving PM in our nation's history, behind William Lyon Mackenzie King, Sir John A. Macdonald, Pierre Trudeau, Sir Wilfrid Laurier and Jean Chrétien — illustrious company.

However, while Harper has without doubt been the most important figure in 21st century Canadian politics so far, many citizens still know little about him. Harper's Facebook page has just 67,208 likes, compared to more than 24 million likes for Barack Obama. Even if you factor in relative populations, Obama has roughly 36 times as many Facebook followers as Harper. And the lack of interest doesn't stop with Facebook.

Harper has around 180,000 followers on Twitter. Obama has 11.1 million.

A search for "Stephen Harper Biography" on Amazon.ca yield 26 results. The same search for Obama? 362 results.

If this all seems like poppycock to you, take our quiz and prove us wrong.

In a speech to an American think tank called us a Welfare State...and worse.

A few years later he got elected.

No, he called us a northern European welfare state, and he was right,
Notice any troubles in Europe lately?

Man you, you make me laugh so....this was in 1997...

"Canada is a Northern European welfare state in the worst sense of the term, and very proud of it. Canadians make no connection between the fact that they are a Northern European welfare state and the fact that we have very low economic growth, a standard of living substantially lower than yours (US), a massive brain drain of young professionals to your country, and double the unemployment rate of the United States."

- Conservative leader Stephen Harper, then vice-president of the National Citizens Coalition, in a June 1997 Montreal meeting of the Council for National Policy, a right-wing American think tank.

"In their own words" has a collections of wonder Harper comments, well worth looking up since they get taken down quite often.

Give me a list of the organizations that Mr. Harper belongs to, and I will have a good idea
of the man himself.

"My Tory nightmare Tossing and turning with Harper at the helm"

By Geoff Olson (eminent Canadian journalist).

EXCERPTS:

"For decades, he has belonged to the Alliance Church, a body that won’t ordain women, denounces homosexuality, strongly opposes abortion and divorce and believes Christ will return during the Apocalypse. Evangelical Christians recognize the PM as one of their own, but there’s no political capital to be made by admitting his religious beliefs explicitly since that would alienate the majority of voters."

"Then there’s his position on Israel – on bended knee. From the attacks in the occupied territories to Israel’s 2006 bombing raids in Lebanon, his friends in the Mideast can do no wrong."

Thankfully for Canadians, Harper is his own worst enemy.

The worst thing to ever happen to Canada, I doubt the country will survive his wedge politics.

My goal as a photographer is to take the first ever photo of Harper not looking goofy. A monumental task, I know.

He's an alright guy I guess. Not the best, but not the worst.

The real question is how much do I really care about Harper?

I'll give you a hint, it ranges from 0 and .01

'How much do you know about Stephen Harper" The question should have been how much do you want to know about Stephen Harper?

All we need to know about him is that he doesn't believe in democracy and is enamored with implementing a fascist society government by a cabal of Jes-s freaks and oil/gas corporate CEOs.

I'm utterly disgusted every time I see him
