A B.C. ferry has struck the dock while entering the Departure Bay terminal at Nanaimo.

B.C. Ferry spokeswoman Deborah Marshall called Friday's incident "a hard landing."

There were no injuries requiring the attention of paramedics, B.C. Ambulance reported.

Most passengers would have been in their vehicles at the time of the impact, but foot passengers would have been assembled for exit from the vessel's passenger deck.

Marshall said there is some damage to both the ship and the dock and as a result, the 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. sailings between Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay have been cancelled.

It's not known if the cause of the incident has been determined yet.

The Queen of Oak Bay continues to sail on the Nanaimo route.

I'll bet it was a hard landing. B.C. ferries are enormous. When I was a child still taking vacations
with my family, we drove to B.C. along the Trans Canada Highway. Anyway, my dad wanted
to go to Tofino on Vancouver Island, so our whole family drove onto the ferry called The Queen
Burnaby, parked our car in a parking lot on the ferry and went up to the top deck. The scenery
was breathtaking from the ferry deck. I was a teenager at the time and even though it was
many years ago, if I close my eyes , I'm back on the Queen Burnaby in my mind's eye.
