THREE HILLS, Alta. - A Bible college northeast of Calgary says it has contacted the RCMP over abuse allegations it says date back several decades.

Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alta. posted a statement on its website that the allegations were made by people connected with the college, but adds those involved are no longer there.

The statement says the college brought a file containing the allegations to the RCMP and has assured investigators of its full co-operation.

Prairie Bible Institute was founded in 1922 when its founder, L.E. Maxwell, taught the Bible to eight local farm children.

It later grew to include a ministry for mission preparation, a technical college and an aviation school.

The statement does not specify who the allegations have been made against.

Mark L. Maxwell, the college's president and the grandson of its founder, says his goal in dealing with the allegations is to be "open and accessible."

"In partnership with our students, faculty, staff and alumni, our objective is to provide a school environment that is healthy and vibrant, giving life to all who come our way," Maxwell says in the website statement.

Prairie Bible Institute boasts 16,000 alumni in 114 countries.

Linda Fossen, an alumni member who attended elementary and high school at the college and later two years of post-secondary during the 1960s and 1970s, said she has encouraged several alumni to contact police about their allegations of sexual abuse.

Fossen, who lives near Orlando, Florida, says she met many of the people through a Facebook page for alumni.

RCMP spokesperson Doris Stapleton said police are only in the early stages of determining whether an investigation is necessary.

"There has been an allegation of an historic sexual assault allegation," Stapleton said. "It is my understanding that one person has come forward with an allegation."

Prairie Bible Institute said in an email on Saturday that Maxwell wouldn't be available to speak about the investigation until Monday.

However, in an interview on the school's website recorded on Nov. 14 and posted on the website, Maxwell says the college downloaded all the allegations from the Facebook page and gave them to RCMP on Nov. 10.

"We, too, would like to find out the truth," he said. "It's now with the police."

When will the Christian (with a K) Conservatives Communities learn that their need for obedience to the word of God makes their organizations vulnerable to that 1% Dr. Robert Hare warns us about in "Snakes in Suits". They tend to give deference to authority figures, so they like a good candidates as authority figures. They have no empathy, so in their minds physical, emotional and sexual abuse is easy. And in the book "Moral Minds" we are warned they can learn morality and forget it just as quickly. Empathy is not in their DNA, like most of our species of Collaborative Monkeys. They must be here for an intra-species cull when they are needed for the good of the species.

Save some investigative resources by first investigating any who teach classes spouting hate against gays, minorities, and single parents.

Seems it's usually the ones who screech the loudest and condemn others the loudest, that are actually doing whatever they're forbidding at the time.

Burn this evangelical house of horrors to the ground for fronting a child sex abuse cult. The fact that this "religious school" now turns its records over to police is no defense for the years of criminal obstruction and deception.

Abuse is prominant in all religious organizations. Wait until this scandal penetrates the Baptist organizational hierarchy and sex-paniced, hysterical mobs with pitch forks and torches start demanding public executions of evangelicals.

Unlike the Roman Catholics, the Prairie Bible Institute has been open about the issue and has allowed investigation to carry on. The incident took place several decades ago but the Roman Catholic Church, despite so much adverse publicity, is still permitting its priests to abuse children. I wonder what kind of abuse the Bible Institute is talking about?

Remember the Penn State scandal started with "only one" accuser. It took more than a decade to get anyone to listen to this young boy. Let's hope this doesn't take any where nearly as long. Reglious people tend to "cover up" and "hide" their own in my opinion.

And there is that teaching that if bad things happen to you, it's because you lack faith or have failed God in some way. It's almost like the victim is to blame and the bad guys are just instruments God uses to get you back in line.

I know of another prairie bible school that" covered up" a big issue in a families life about 14 years ago. It turned into a Hell of a mess for them.. Yep,student and family were" backslidden" was the solution. And the" holier than thou" attitude emmitted left a stench in the air. Makes you wonder if the Pharasitical attitude is rampant in these places. You ever get the short end of the stick with these schools you will quickly learn how transparent they are. On a good note there are a lot of well meaning and dedicated christians among their arrogant and hypocritical weeds in my opinion!
