Montreal Fans Fight At Bruins vs. Canadiens Game (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post Canada   First Posted: 11/22/11 10:26 AM ET Updated: 11/22/11 10:31 AM ET

Maybe Rodney Dangerfield was on to something.

On the ice, Monday night's Montreal Canadiens vs. Boston Bruins game was a goaltending battle between Carey Price and Tim Thomas. Perhaps the fans at the Bell Centre wanted more scoring because this rather brutal fight broke out in the stands.

According to the Puck Daddy blog the fight broke out near the end of the tightly-contested game.

The rivalry between the Bruins and the Habs is one of the fiercest in the Eastern Conference. Last year, Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara nearly ended the career of Habs forward Max Pacioretty with a brutal hit that drove his head into a stanchion.

In recent years, Habs fans have not behaved well, rioting and setting police cars on fire after playoff games.

For those wanting to know, Boston squeaked past with a 1-0 win last night, extending their unbeaten streak to nine games.

Scott Niedermayer of the Anaheim Ducks passes his stick to a little girl in the crowd but a man tries to grab it and a fight ensues. The man in the crowd who throws punches at the guy that tried to grab the stick is professional skateboarder Mike Vallely. Mike V. had a blog on ducks.nhl.com which was pulled after the fight.

It's ok to go to a game and have a fight. It's a fun time, and watch a fight on or off the ice.

The NHL should ban Montreal from having a franchise and move the team to Hamilton

I'm a Canadian living in Boston (leafs fan, not the habs). I'm not surprised by this fight. One thing I've learned from going to Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox games is that the Boston-Irish stereotype is well-earned. Lots of people getting really liquored up and wanting to get into a confrontation or a fight. I don't wear my Leafs jersey when I take my kids to see the Bruins play Toronto at the Gahden. :)
Recipe for trouble = alcohol + Bruins fans in Montreal + French-Canadians at a Habs game where they are losing + anti-french epithets.
They're all knuckleheads.
What surprised me is that the fight was in the lower bowl - usually the higher ticket prices discourage the yobs

dont blame this on the game, fighting is a human tendency, so is provoking fights. People need entertainment and some of the entertainment comes from beaking others, watching the outcome of beaks, and alcohol. Lots of these comments surprise me as these "sophisticated hip" types judge these people of their actions and the sport and its following. This is human nature. And so is self defense. I respect these fans for not being pushovers and pansies as most of these other commenters seem to be. Broad street bullies, Ron artest and co, nascar races, any given nfl game, soccer hooligans, hipsters fighting over bike lanes. If you cant stand up for youself then who do you expect to back you up.

It's unfortunate that these disturbances exist but they exist in every sports venue on the planet. A stereotype is just what it is, a stereotype. To regard Boston fans as Irish drunkards seeking violence is absurd. I would like to know your opinion about fans destroying or rioting in their own city over a defeat or a win ( Montreal and Vancouver e.g.). Well, I guess you would like to have us believe that these rabble rousers were Irish drunkards from the Boston area. Don't be so biased, keep a positive open mind. There are good and bad in all of us. I was born and raised in the Boston area and I am of Scottish decent (Nova Scotia) . I am now living in Brazil. I'm glad I didn't listen to all the stereotypes of Latin and Hispanic people and if I had , what an ignorant person I would have been. South America is a beautiful place with beautiful people and yes they take their national sport very seriously to the point of death, are all South Americans like this? They are not ! Don't let some bad seeds kill the whole garden.

im not biased at all man, ive been the boston fan and ive been the montreal fan. I am a vancouverite btw hahaha... that was pathetic, but from a vancouverite, it was crazy to watch, it was however instigated by balaclava clad and armed dudes running around, lots with US id and washington state memorabilia btw. but it was the masses who joined in, most in it to catch a bit of the "fun", be a part of history, look badass for a picture, or make a quick buck. im, believe it or not with the ppl who fought (not their actions) because we all are the same people inside with the same emotions. Its actually satisfying to see people not be sissies for once.

Where is Don Cherry on this issue.

Imagine this, they can't charge these people in the stands for Causing a Disturbance in a Public Place by Fighting!

Why you ask? Well, a defense lawyer has a PERFECT case because all he has to do is run a video clip of a fight that broke out on the ice and ask WHY WERE THE HOCKEY PLAYERS NOT CHARGED with the same offense or various other assault charges.

CBC will be replaying this during their Punch and Judy segment (excuse me, I meant Coaches Corner) come Saturday night.

And for the guy who was doing all the kicking, let's equip the Security Staff with tasers. If they missed him, they might have nailed the BIG guy beating on the LITTLE guy in the background.
