Calgary MP Rob Anders says the reason he fell asleep in question period earlier this month is because of a recent car accident.

A YouTube video of Anders nodding off in the House of Commons on Nov. 17 has become a sensation online.

In an email to a constituent who had inquired about the incident, Anders said he was rear ended by an 18-wheeler and the resulting whiplash is taking a toll.

His constituency office has confirmed the accident happened, but there are no details about when or where.

Had Anders been a TTC ticket taker, he would have been fired...

Rob Anders is more effective as a Parliamentarian when he's asleep anyway. At least when they are asleep the Harper bunch can't do any damage.

Gee, was the 18 Wheeler loaded or empty at the time of collision impact!

This incident, will now cause the IMAGE conscious Harper to have small TASER wires embedded in the seating.

A Intern will sit off in the corner and whenever heads and eyelids start to droop, they can press a button to send an electric jolt along those wires and bring those seated on it back to a conscious levels!

Well. he seemed to nod without any pain.

However a good defence lawyer might argue that any alleged discomfort may be whiplash induced by nodding off...

Wonder what the NDP/Liberal members excuse is for being absent from Parliament and being curled up on the couch in their office ?

WHAT ?? WHY ?? Did you not realize that there is MINIMAL representation by ALL parties during Question Period? Only those actually required to be in the viewfinder of the TV camera.
Not "into" reality, I guess?

ok name just one memorable positive thing Rob Anders has ever done since he became and MP (and before), like me you are now sleepy and your head is bobbing, whiplash. The answer no he has done nothing, and yet we keep voting him in!

I find Anders pretty useless as an MP (even his constituency association tried to replace him). However, I've been in a similar position and used to nod off in class at university when dealing with my whiplash, and I wasn't on anything stronger than ibuprofen. It's very hard to sleep with a damaged neck, since almost every head position is painful. Though I don't think I'd've been able to nod off during anything as loud as QP generally is!

The flipflop on the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton, the cancellation of P3 Rec Centres in Calgary - Awake or asleep, Alberta's PC MP's are equally useless.
