HALIFAX - Police have dished out multiple charges to a Halifax teenager over an early morning barbecued rib dinner.

Around 5 a.m. today, officers responded to a report that someone broke into a garage, stole ribs from a freezer and fired up an unsuspecting homeowner's barbecue.

The homeowner told police he woke up to see flames near his garage.

Investigators say the flames were coming from a rack of ribs burning on his barbecue.

An 18-year-old was arrested without incident after police said they found him hiding in a nearby yard.

He faces charges including break and enter, theft, possession of stolen property and carrying a concealed weapon.

In a statement, police say the homeowner was able to extinguish the fire — but they describe the meal as "a total loss."
