Cougar spotted in North Saanich neighbourhood
North Saanich residents and school officials are being warned about a cougar that has been spotted in their neighbourhood several times in recent days.
The big cat was first spotted on Dec. 1 near Hillgrove and Sumac Roads, about one kilometre away from the BC Ferries Swartz Bay ferry terminal, according to RCMP Cpl. Chris Swain.
Police believe the same cougar was spotted again on Friday near West Saanich and Tatlow Roads, then again near Osprey Place.
Then on Sunday the cougar was spotted on Eagle Way and shortly afterwards on Elderberry Way.
Police believe because the sightings are all in the same area, that it is likely the same animal.
RCMP and conservation officers have not yet spotted the big cat, but are encouraging residents to keep a close eye on children and pets in the area.
