Celebrity Body Transformations 2011: The Ups And Downs

The Huffington Post Canada   First Posted: 12/ 7/2011 7:32 am   Updated: 12/ 8/2011 1:42 pm

In any given year, you'll have your celebrity weight loss -- and gain -- stories, and 2011 certainly was no different.

What did set this year apart, however, was the candid way in which many stars approached their bodies' changes. Between embracing weight loss programs such as Jenny (the company formerly known as Jenny Craig), setting up their own organic line, or calling out past rivals on their weight gain, this year's batch of shape-shifting celebs has set the honesty bar high for 2012.

I'm so glad I found this. I just discovered Kirstie Alley's Organic Liaison and I love it. I've just spent the last couple of hours going from her pics here all over to her OL homepage, watching videos, learning about the products and sharing. I just lost 70 pounds, but I'm all for good health and maintaining it. Thanks so much, HuffPost!

Kirstie Alley looks really good. She doesn't look like she's in her 60's.

Why do we even feel we have the right to judge anyone else, male or female, based on weight and appearance? Celebrity is a b itch, I guess.

Frankly I like most of the "befores" better except maybe for Moriah Carey. Many of them looked pulled at tucked way too much. Some of the "after" photos aren't very flattering.

Mariah looks fantastic, this is the best she's look in years. I have to agree that the photos posted do not show how drastic some of these people have changed.

She had a tummy tuck and lipo. She did not lose that weight with diet and exercise.

I agree. Leanne Rimes looks so much better and healthier in the before shot. She's lost
way too much weight. She doesn't look well in the after shot.

As a Registered Dietitian who specializes in Eating Disorders, I cannot emphasize enough how these messages and images harm men and women. The message that a culture judges the value of a person by the way they look and how much they weigh is destructive. The idea that once an "ideal body" is achieved that love, self-esteem, satisfaction and peace will follow is tantalizing but ultimately false. What can we do as a society to change this?

I agree with your comments, FitwithFiorella. Fanned ;)

Some of those "transformations" weren't very transformative.

Yeah...

...but we should all act like we're real impressed.

Celebrities have pretty weak egos.

Here's an idea, let's stop glorifying celebrities. They offer nothing constructive to society. Who cares if they lose weight. Who cares if they appear to be 'perfect' by some type of whacked out society standard.

Why not actually talk about normal people, instead of these skinny, braindead celebrities? Hollywood needs more normal people.

I agree! Pictures and stories of real people that have lost weight and transformed their bodies and their lives without expensive trainers, private chefs, and plastic surgeons are what inspires me.
