Quick Study [kwik stuhd-ee]: The Huffington Post Canada's tips to make your life a little sweeter, five minutes at a time. Think of it as a cheatsheet for your general well-being.

For the next 30 days, we're checking out how to take a break from your busy holiday schedule and relax -- in unexpected ways.

THE EXPERT:

Sometimes, working with accessories you already have is a great way to freshen up an outfit. The Huffington Post Canada talked to personal stylist Kelli Harker, based in Calgary, on how play up our personal style this holiday season.

"This is the time of year to put that extra thought and attention into your outfits. One of the easiest ways to do this is by accessorizing. Adding a few bangles or layering necklaces will make any outfit modern and festive. By mixing colours, textures and lengths you add visual interest and express your own style.

Scarves are also a game changer. They can be worn several ways around the neck, but they also look great as a belt through the loops of your pants or tied around your waist. It is even fun to tie a bold patterned square scarf on the handle of your purse.

A low slung chain belt can dress up any long sweater or tunic. Another idea is to wear a wide belt at the narrowest part of your upper waist and then put on your favorite boyfriend jacket or even a tuxedo jacket for a more dressy look."

HUFFPOST SECRETS:

Stylist Kelly Millar says trends shouldn't always dictate what you wear.

"When it comes to finding the right look, you have to consider what suits you and your body type first," says Millar. "Fashion may dictate what's in style or hot at the moment, but that may not always be what's right for you." Read the rest of her post here.
