It could be another challenging night for motorists heading getting on and off the island of Montreal.
The Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel will be closed in both directions starting at 10 p.m., Transport Quebec said Friday.
But the complete closure means work on the South Shore-bound portion of the tunnel, which was shut down Wednesday night, will finish early.
It is expected to open mid-day on Dec. 24.
The northbound lanes headed into Montreal will remain closed until 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Transport Quebec announced a three-day closure of the tunnel in the direction of the South Shore after corrosion was found on beams supporting the paralumes – the light-dimming structures at the entrance and exit of the tunnel.
Crews are now in the process of making the necessary repairs.
Traffic is being rerouted to the Jacques-Cartier and Victoria bridges.
