Man shot by Laval police

A 37-year-old man was shot by Laval police Thursday night after he allegedly acted aggressively towards officers responding to a domestic violence call.

Laval police were dispatched to the apartment on Lartigue Street just before 11:30 p.m.

“Upon arriving on the scene, the officers were confronted by a man who was holding an edged weapon and was threatening to attack his spouse,” said Lt. Guy Lapointe of the Quebec provincial police.

The officers tried to negotiate with the man, but “things went very rapidly,” he said. At least one shot was fired at the suspect.

He was hit in the upper body and was transported to a nearby hospital.

On Friday morning, he was listed in stable condition.

The Sûreté du Québec is now investigating the incident.
