Possible sex assault on girl investigated

Toronto police say they are investigating — but stress they cannot confirm — a possible sexual assault against a four-year-old girl.

Police say the incident happened at about 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 26, when the parents discovered the little girl was missing from her bed in a home in the Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue neighbourhood.

They called 911, but by the time police arrived the parents had found the girl a short distance away.

Police say they are investigating the incident as a possible sexual assault and attempted kidnapping, but they have also stressed to the media that at the present time they cannot confirm that either crime happened.

Police say they do not have exact information on how the child left her home.

The little girl has been taken to hospital. Police say she appears to be unharmed.

Police will not say if they are looking for a suspect.

Several houses on the residential street have been taped off while members of the police forensic unit look into the incident.
