MONTREAL - A freak accident involving a plunging car killed two people in Montreal on Wednesday.

The vehicle lost control, went flying off an interchange and landed on a set of train tracks below.

Police say they believe a train may have then struck the car.

The two people in the vehicle were killed.

Police can't yet say what caused the accident in Montreal's west-end LaSalle borough.

However, the weather in the Montreal area had been miserable since Tuesday night, with freezing rain giving way to heavy snow.

It was not immediately clear whether the deaths were caused by the fall or the impact with the train.

My son knows the kids of this couple. they go to the same college. This was a devastating tragedy. The couple were known as being an extraordinary couple who were so in love with one another and inseparable. Just so sad.

News sources are accurately reporting this as an incident involving a pick-up truck. This vehicle type is frequently driven with insufficient weight in the cargo area to provide adequate traction to the rear wheels. Pick-up trucks frequently 'spin-out' on slick roads causing accidents.

Not if the tires lost traction. The driver can't control that. But then I guess it should read, "Tires lost control".
