... [The] version of the [Wall Street] Journal report also notes that

"Justice still could decide not to bring charges against the individuals, people familiar with the situation said. It's not unusual for prosecutors to use the threat of charges to pressure people to cooperate in investigations."

We all know that there is a terrible shortage of attorneys in the United States, and how could the Department of Justice be expected to prosecute every multi-billion dollar environmental violation.

Can you imagine how many seminars in Hawaii and Florida and New York would have to cancelled to provide enought manpower to actually take this to trial?

How many lawyers with 30-60 day leave time accumulated would have to cancel their travel plans? How many "compassionate leaves", "first month maternity leaves", "illness in the family leaves" would have to be cancelled.

It might require moving assets and money from closing Medical Marijuana shops in California.

Worse yet, it might involve requiring attorneys who are within one year of retiring, to actually do some productive work. Of the shame!

And, of course, even if they could find enough attorneys, and could afford the litigation, there is also the fact that B.P. is a huge campaign contributor.

Best to follow the SEC model. Ignore the problem until the children of the criminals come in to report their fathers, or just settle for pennies on the dollar, see: SEC v. Citi, Judge Rakoff.

Just another victory for the 1%. You, of course know the "Golden Rule". "He who has the gold, makes the rules"

How could it be in the personal interests of anyone in the Department of Justice, to want to prosecute individuals who could "help" them in their careers.

How could it be in the personal interests of the senior people in the Department of Justice to want to antagonize senior politicians by enforcing the laws of the United States.

After all, you know that the goverment is made up of people who have mortgage payments, and kids that need to go to expensive colleges, by jimminy crickets, they have to put "food on the table", like all the other struggling Americans.

They have to pay for their alcohol bills, and expensive vacation with their wife and children, and for those vacations without their wives and children.

They want to enjoy the "good things" of American life just like anyone else. Sometimes insurance does pay for all their rehab expenses.

And you are asking them to offend their benefactors and deprive their wives and children of all that they need, just because someone spilled a little something in the huge, huge ocean?

What a joke. Going after "employees" and leaving the corporation out of the prosecution is tantamount to giving them free license to repeat their actions AGAIN. Why not cut into that subsidy money, the golden parachutes, and the million dollar bonuses for NOT doing their jobs?

The worst of BP's destruction lasted for 87 days. The devastation wrought by the banks and Wall Street, after more than three years, continues unabated.
