EDMONTON - An Edmonton family doctor has been suspended for inappropriate conduct with two female patients, including sex with one of them.

Dr. Khaled Smeida will be suspended for at least a year after Alberta's College of Physicians and Surgeons ruled a variety of complaints against him had been proven.

Smeida was found guilty of inappropriate touching and hugging, as well as making non-medical comments.

He had sex with one of the women three times.

Before resuming his practice in 2013, Smeida must take counselling and treatment courses.

Even then, he will only be allowed to treat female patients over the age of 15 in the presence of a nurse chaperon.
