Toronto's police watchdog is investigating after a 31-year-old man fell to his death from an apartment balcony in Toronto's east end on Wednesday night.
Toronto Police say officers went to an apartment at 60 Town Centre Ct. just before midnight to look for a wanted man.
Police say the officers were speaking with a man through an apartment door on the 21st floor.
A neighbour then came out and told the officers a man was trying to get into the neighbouring apartment from the balcony.
The officers then saw the man trying to climb from one balcony to another before falling from the 21st floor to a ninth-floor balcony.
Pardeep Mann, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not known whether he lived in the building or was visiting.
The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating and asking for any witnesses to come forward. The SIU investigates all instances in which a civilian is hurt or killed in the presence of police.
“We’re seeking anyone who may have witnessed or heard anything to contact the SIU and speak to the lead investigator," SIU spokesperson Jasbir Brar told CBC News.
