Scarborough shooting leaves young man dead

Toronto police are seeking two suspects following a fatal shooting in Scarborough.

It happened in the parking lot at 3895 Lawrence Ave. East with police and EMS responding to a gun call shortly after 11 a.m. Friday.

EMS has confirmed to CBC News that the victim was a 20-year-old male who was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name has not been released.

Det. Sgt. Brett Nicol said the man, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, was purposefully targeted. "I don't think this is a random shooting," he said.

Police believe the two suspects ran west from the scene, but have not located any suspects or persons of interest, Nicol said.

"There's been a history of gang activity in this general area," Nicol said. "I can't tell you the status of those gangs at this time and how active they are. But there are a lot of good residents in this neighbourhood, and they've been very co-operative at this time, and we'd like to thank them for their support."

It is Toronto's 45th homicide of the year.
