Impaired driving charge after mother killed in collision

A man has been charged with impaired driving after a two-vehicle collision just east of Windsor late Saturday resulted in the death of a 44-year-old woman.

Police say the collision, at Walker and South Talbot roads in the southwestern Ontario town of Tecumseh around 10 p.m., involved a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old man and another containing a family of five from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The 44-year old woman died of her injuries, while an eight-year-old child remains in critical condition after being transported to a Michigan hospital for emergency surgery.

The 44-year-old male driver of the family vehicle and two other child passengers received non-life threatening injuries and are expected to recover.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 27-year-old man from Essex County, suffered only minor injuries. Police say he has been charged with impaired driving and has been released.

The Essex County Technical Traffic Investigation Unit is conducting an investigation.
