1 dead after Montreal pair hit by N.B. bus

One woman is dead and another man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a small passenger bus struck them on Sunday evening.

The collision happened at about 7 p.m. near Perth-Andover, N.B.

"The driver of the small bus was heading towards Perth-Andover on Route 190 when he unfortunately struck a 50-year-old man, who was walking with his 79-year old mother," said RCMP Const. Chantal Farrah.

"It's believed from the investigation that the pair were struck from behind as they were walking on the roadway with the flow of traffic," Farrah said.

Both victims are from Montreal, but police are not releasing their names pending notification of their next of kin.

The woman died as a result of her injuries. The man is in critical condition at Saint John Regional Hospital.

RCMP are still investigating, but Farrah said they don't believe alcohol to be a factor in the crash. She said it was dark and the highway was slushy at the time.

Two of the driver's family members were on the bus at the time of the incident.
