Coquitlam child rapist sentenced to 10 years in prison

A man who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old Coquitlam, B.C., girl has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, but will serve just over half the sentence because of double credit for time already served.

Antonio Eduardo Daponte, 46, snuck into the girl's bedroom window two years ago and threatened to gouge out her eyes if she didn't cooperate.

The assault only ended when the girl screamed and fought back and Daponte, who knew the girl and her family, fled out a window, Crown lawyers said during the trial.

Daponte was out on bail for numerous stolen property and break and enter offences at the time of the assault.

He is also facing deportation to his native Portugal once his sentence is complete.
