Feather Extensions, Your Time Is Up

By definition, trends are fleeting. They're ephemeral. And each day we see our fair share of looks we'd like to remove from our sartorial lexicon. So join us each week as we analyze a trend that's had its 15 minutes of fame. These looks are well into their Minute 16, folks. It's time to usher them toward stage left.

The Trend: It's a bird! It's a plane! Oh wait, that's just your hair. Feather extensions have taken over the streets and it's an interesting approach to new hairstyles. We've seen the weave rise to fame and drop away, we saw the colour panels fade out and now we're flying high with feathers in our hair. They're easy to wear -- you just clip them in and go -- which might account for their popularity; We've seen them on women everywhere.

Chief Offenders: Counter to the trend on the street, most celebrities are keeping their hair feather-free. But that's not to say some of our favourite ladies haven't flocked together to lighten up their hair. From Selena Gomez to Vanessa Hudgens to Ke$ha, it seems the young Hollywood set has embraced the feather extension.

What's Wrong With The Trend: Although we accept and embrace the fact that the 1990s are indeed coming back, we think the clip-ins are not. Having your feathers in your hair is a super-bohemian look, so if that's what you're going for -- keep it up! But if you're doing the stylish city look, feathers can clash, look dated, or just plain out of place.

May We Suggest: Going natural! Natural beauty has made a comeback and it's not going anywhere. Your hair doesn't need the help of a rooster to look amazing. If you're looking for a wilder style, try some DIY curls, or for a sleeker look, try a wavy blowout.

Do you agree or disagree that this trend should end? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter!
