Thieves ransacked a Terrace, B.C., home and stole items off the dead owner‘s body while they were at it, RCMP say.

The man’s son, Doug Yeast, stopped in to check up on his father, George Yeast, late last week in the community about 700 kilometres north of Vancouver and discovered the man's workshop had been ransacked and the door of the dwelling had been kicked in.

He then found his father dead inside the house.

Investigators determined the man had died of natural causes before the break-in.

“After a thorough investigation, it appears the break and enter [occurred] after he had passed away,” said Const. Angele Rabut. “The dead man's family are outraged.”

Doug Yeast said thieves went through his father’s pockets and stole his wallet and wedding ring.

“They knew he was dead when they broke into the house,” he said. “They're a bunch of low-lifes.”

Tools and gasoline cans were also stolen.

There have been no arrests.
