TORONTO - A Toronto civic committee has approved a motion for big increases in some rush-hour parking fines.

The Public Works and Infrastructure Committee has approved a $150 fine for motorists who block live lanes during rush hour by parking or stopping illegally.

It's aimed at combating downtown traffic gridlock.

City council would have to approve the measure before it becomes law.

Rush hour is considered to be from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
