TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,231.06 down 43.27 points):

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Down nine cents, or two per cent, at $4.41 on 16,567,251 shares. The company has named former General Motors executive Mike Arcamone as president of its Bombardier commercial aircraft division as it gears up for the launch of its pivotal lightweight composite CSeries jet.

Lake Shore Gold Corp. (TSX:LSG). Miner. Down 13 cents, or 8.55 per cent, at $1.39 on 4,133,117 shares.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up three cents, or 0.25 per cent, at $11.92 on 3,911,353 shares.

Connacher Oil and Gas Ltd. (TSX:CLL). Oil and gas. Up seven cents, or 6.86 per cent, at $1.09 on 3,910,846 shares.

Nexen Inc. (TSX:NXY). Oil and gas. Down 14 cents, or 0.77 per cent, at $18.07 on 3,783,411 shares.

Talisman Energy Inc. (TSX:TLM). Oil and gas. Down 41 cents, or 3.37 per cent, at $11.74 on 3,765,932 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,536.03 down 4.47 points):

ShaMaran Petroleum Corp. (TSXV:SNM). Oil and gas. Unchanged at 24 cents on 5,552,138 shares.

PNG Gold Corp. (TSXV:PGK). Miner. Down four cents, or 8.33 per cent, at 44 cents on 5,490,100 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Softchoice Corp. (TSX:SO). IT solutions. Down 25 cents, or 2.37 per cent, at $10.32 on 21,904 shares. The company's biggest stakeholder, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board, has sold its entire stake in Softchoice Corp. for about $51 million. Teachers had owned about 25.7 per cent of Softchoice stock.

Canadian National Railway (TSX:CNR). Railway. Down $1.05, or 1.32 per cent, at $78.25 on 807,567 shares. CN issued a statement on Friday asking former CEO Hunter Harrison to respect commitments he made to the Montreal-based company when he retired in 2009 "and to reconsider his expressed interest in a position at Canadian Pacific." Stock in Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. (TSX:CP) was up 67 cents, or 0.96 per cent, at $70.77.
